Colleges & Majors
Appalachian has 32 academic departments distributed among four colleges- Arts and Sciences, Business, Fine and Applied Arts, and Education- and the Miriam Cannon Hayes School of Music. In addition, there is a Division of Continuing Education, which administers off-campus extension work, summer programs, and other special offerings.
The choice of major determines which college a student enters. Each college provides general and specialized education for particular professions or for professional or graduate schools. Students usually take 38 to 52 semester hours in their field and meet other requirements of their department.
