Appalachian fields 10 varsity sports for men, which compete in the Southern Conference NCAA Division I-A (football is I-AA). Appalachian men have won the Southern Conference Commissioner's Cup 25 times since the award was established in 1970.
Kidd Brewer Stadium—where the Mountaineers compete in football, soccer, and track—seats 17,000, and the Holmes Convocation Center seats 8,400 for basketball, volleyball, and indoor track and field. Other facilities include Lackey baseball field, a wrestling room, a cross-country course, a dance studio, a gymnastics room, a weight room, and racquetball courts.
