Outdoor Programs
No student should leave Appalachian without exploring and experiencing the surrounding mountains, woods, and streams, among the most spectacular and best protected in the world. To that end, Outdoor Programs organizes a broad range of interesting low-cost trips, outings, workshops, and seminars.
At a 3,333-foot altitude in the Blue Ridge Mountains and a 45-minute drive from some of the East Coast's highest mountains, Appalachian's setting provides some of the best opportunities anywhere for canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, white-water rafting, caving, and kayaking. All necessary equipment—tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, and camp gear—is available at a low-cost rental.
